McDonald’s teams up with Krispy Kreme to sell donuts, but there’s a catch

For some McDonald’s customers, stopping at the fast-food icon for their morning coffee has become even sweeter. On Tuesday, McDonald’s and Krispy Kreme announced that they are teaming up with McDonald’s to sell Krispy Kreme cakes starting October 26. There’s only one catch: This is just a test run at nine McDonald’s locations in Louisville, Kentucky.

according to CNNMcDonald’s decision to carry Krispy Kreme cakes is part of a test to “inform future menu decisions” and is generally seen as an unusual move for both companies — especially since McDonald’s already serves the pastries as part of the McAfee lineup. When it comes to Krispy Kreme offerings at select McDonald’s locations, Krispy Kreme will deliver cupcakes daily and customers can choose to purchase cupcakes individually or in packages of six. There will also be a handful of options in terms of flavors customers can choose from, including glazed, chocolate frosted sprinkles, and raspberry filling. Cakes will be available for purchase throughout the day.

“McDonald’s is always looking for ways to give our fans more of what they crave, and we often run tests to inform future menu decisions,” a statement to the chain read. “This small-scale test will help us understand how introducing new bakery items like Krispy Kreme could impact operations in our restaurants.”

Because this is a run-of-the-mill experience, Krispy Kreme donuts will be available at select McDonald’s for a limited time only. It’s not clear exactly what the testing schedule will be. Cakes will only be available in the restaurant and a car through so it doesn’t seem like something customers can order from McDonald’s using various delivery apps.

what do you think? Would you like to have a Krispy Kreme donut at McDonald’s? If you were in the Louisville area, would you check out this listing view? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!
